Item details Handmade Material glazed modified gypsum with bronze powder Dimensions Height: 6.5 Inches; Width: 7.5 Inches; Depth: 2.25 Inches I design, carve, and cast the pieces myself: theyre wholly original. I cast them in modified gypsum (a very strong building material) with bronze powder. The pieces come boxed, can stand or hang (there's a hook on the back), and can go outside. Each piece comes with a history card stating: This piece bears the images of three carved saints, plus two auxiliary images from prayer cards (the saints in the windows). All the figures represent qualities that can help harmonize and bless those living under one roof. In the center is Sophia, whose name means wisdom. Descriptions of Sophia, as a personification of wisdom, go back thousands of years. Proverbs 8:22-31, for instance, describes Sophia as present at creation and at the first, before the beginning of the world....When God established the heavens, I was there.... And I was daily his delight, rejoicing before him always,... rejoicing in the inhabited world. Thus according to the Old Testament, Sophia, feminine, was present with God at the creation and is a bringer of delight and joy. To the right of Sophia (if one is facing the triptych) is St. Raphael, whose name means God heals and who is associated with health (the disk he holds in his arm bears the word Salus, which means health) and also with love. To the left of Sophia is St. Michael, who is associated with protection and security. To the far right is St. Monica, who represents patience (she was patient with her long-wayward son, St. Augustine), and to the far left is St. Genesius, who is the patron of comedians and those with a sense of humor. In short, the five saints represent wisdom, joy, health, love, protection, patience, and a sense of humor. With even a touch of those qualities, any household can flourish. The piece was hand carved by Hank Schlau and painted by Karen Schlau.
